“Kámmerkonzert” - Squarepusher
Released April 10, 2026 through WARP.File under: experimental jazz

Tom Jenkinson, AKA Squarepusher lives up to his name by pushing the boundaries, and thinking outside the square, if you will, on his new release Kámmerkonzert out on WARP last week. Translating literally to “Chamber Concert”, this release explores new grounds, adding classical and orchestral sounds to Jenkinson’s repertoire of bass driven ultra-fast-paced rhythms, creating an album of lush and layered IDM drum and bass tracks, and an album full of contrasts too.
Over 14 songs, and just over one hour long, Jenkinson creates hyper-classical sounds by throwing harpsichord at a jazz beat on track K10 Terminus, building a deep classical sound on K1 Advance, and adding a large horn section to the more familiar sounding Squarepusher sound on K2 Central. On K9 Reliance, we hear vibraphones and pianos over jazzy dance beats, the album finishing with a pipe-organ track, an almost ambient piece with K14 Welbeck. A different element of Jenkinson’s music at every turn, and sounds you may have never heard from him, but with his fingerprints all over them.
Never one to shy away from experimentation, Jenkinson has created a future classic here, and one that will take me a few listens to truly appreciate.
